Mapping the city with audio.
Sounds of the City Website
Elevating everyday sounds (perhaps passing cars, the voice of the subway driver), placing them alongside bigger sounds (Church choirs, thunderstorms).
The project begins as a website - you can click on various locations around the city and hear sounds. Footsteps on 22nd street, the choir in a Cathedral on 116th. I like the idea that in recording audio you could pick up snatches of stories - perhaps in recording footsteps on 22nd street you record the fragment of a couple arguing from an open window, or laughter spilling out from inside a cafe.
Orchestra of the City Installation
A giant map on the wall of a gallery. 5.1 Surround sound. People are able to interact with the map - turning audio on and off, creating a symphony of the city.
